Circle path for plane feature

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction regarding circular paths for planar features. I am trying to measure the flange face around a large sphere and have set a circle path for the plane in question. When I execute the feature, the stylus moves to the Z+ clearance plane in between each point, but I would like to have the probe travel around the diameter of the sphere instead. Is this feasible? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

When you say you would like to have it travel around the diameter of the sphere, do you mean have it remain on the plane and scan all the way around, or do you mean take a point, come off the plane, move in an arc around the sphere, take the next point?

Hi Kevin, it would be the latter of the two you mentioned. Take a point, retract and move in an arc to the next point.

My first thought would be to go into "Resources-Feature Settings Editor" choose "travel" from the drop down, and make sure that arc motion and form related travel are set to on for that feature. 2915_860589bb24f4b4a1470b6edfdec76018.png

Hijacking....

Can you explain what both of those actually mean?

The help files are useless.

Arc Motion: Activates or deactivates arc motion.

Form-related travel within strategy: Depending on the feature type, the navigation paths are calculated optimally, thus avoiding, in the case of a cylinder for example, that navigation paths are too long because of their reference to a possible sphere.

Also OP, I believe the setting you want is under the special tab assuming:

You are measuring a Plane
The strategy is a circle path set to SINGLE POINTS

Then in your strategy settings, look at the Basic Options and Special Settings tab.
In special settings, check off Fixed path. This will make the probe travel in an Arc from point to point.

I've never had any luck getting the probe to follow the arc between points.
I've been in a similar situation and just ended up raising the retract to clear between points.

I'll give these solutions a shot once I receive another part in for inspection and will report back. Thanks for the replies!

with calypso 5.2, circle path don't work.
two solutions : raising the retract like Roberto, or take more points wich decrease the distance between two points and avoid collision.when big retractation is needed the second option should take less time. 3726_c4a36c821cc2dbfd67c41875b830c987.jpg
