You better believe it 😃 This machine began life with an ST3 touch probe head and UMESS 300 (setup looked almost exactly like this: https://www.asset-trade.de/koordinatenm ... 5-09111600), was then upgraded to UMESS-UX and ended up with a VAST XT gold head and Calypso. [No...]
Contura 12/18/8 No Y bellows, no HTG 😉 Notice the old-fashioned calibration sphere stand, the only keepsake of my departed friend. Of course I've transplanted the new sphere on top of it.

[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Yeah, I guess this thing will see my retirement and far beyond before another replacement is needed 😃 By the way, it's only the first of two identical machines. The next will be delivered in May and replace a Contura 7/10/6 from 2001. But no more photo stories then, I promise. 😎 Please sign in to view this quote. We won't use a ProMax in the future, now that we have plenty of space. But you're right, the MSR we ordered is still missing. It's strange, they installed this big CMM two weeks ahead of schedule, but are unable to deliver an MSR rack made of a handful of simple aluminum profiles before the end of March. No, we didn't purchase an RDS for now. But maybe one day?
[Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. . Thanks for sharing about this, Norbert. Not even joking... I think I would need to take time off for bereavement in your situation. You must have all kinds of awesome memories from the MC 550. The new Contura looks really nice. Does it have a slightly larger measuring volume? .
[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Oh yeah. That CMM was nearly undestroyable. Owen's allusion to a VW Beetle hit the nail on the head. Like the old commercials claimed, it kept going and going and going.... I can't recall any serious repairs during all this time. I generally like to keep old things alive, but it was becoming too small and too slow for our needs. I'm quite certain that the new machine won't prove nearly as rock solid as the old granite monster. Our old Contura gave us a foretaste during the last 20 years. I admit, it ran almost 24/7 during the weekdays, which the MC 550 did not, but anyway, there was always something to repair. The Y drive motor had to be replaced every few years, almost new XT heads wend bad for no apparent reason, once the whole controller had to be replaced....and so on. Depends on what you call "slightly" 😃 MC 550: X = 550 mm Y = 1200 mm Z = 450 mm Contura 12/18/8: X= 1200 mm Y= 1800 mm Z = 800 mm
