[Pa...]
Is there any guidance and/or restrictions when it comes to applying Windows Updates, especially those for SQL server? Try as I might, I cannot find anything regarding this in the manual, help files, release notes or in the forums. My concern is that the CALYPSO software suite and its attendant components have only been tested with and/or require a certain version level of MS Windows and SQL server and that applying the lasted non-security updates may break the installation. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
[No...]
Well, I can't say anything specific (like version numbers) about this, only that all our CMM computers (4) run on a Windows image issued by our company IT and automatically receive all kinds of updates in the background all the time. Some of the PCs we once bought from Zeiss, but all of them have since been exchanged by company-compliant types which fulfill the Zeiss hardware specs. I can't remember a single problem that was related to an out-of-spec update.
[Pa...]
Norbert, What you do is basically what we were doing until recently when we upgraded to version 7.4 back in July and then started having all sorts of problems: long existing programs would throw weird unhandled exceptions, PDFs wouldn't generate, the system would just hang/freeze. This was on a Zeiss supplied and built system running Win10 Enterprise in a Windows domain environment. We did a Windows System File Check multiple times and every was in sync, so it wasn't DLL mismatches. We worked the hardware manufacture HP and there was not apparent issue there. We rolled back and ran the still install previous version of CALYPSO and now the problem is there. We finally did a 'nuke and re-pave' with a fresh install of newly purchased copy of Win10 Pro and fresh install of CALYPSO, which is what Zeiss suggested after they remoted in and could not find any issues. We are going slowly, so as to be able diagnose if and when things go sideways, we have some idea of what caused it. So far things are going good but then again, we are not even back on the domain, and we just re-installed the AVS late on Friday, as this was one of possible wrench in the gears that was causing our problems. We going to monitor things for a while before we take the next baby-step. However, right now, we have a whole slew of Windows and SQL updates queued up, both security and non-security related. This would probably be that next step and we just were looking for guidance and anyone else's experience with regards to issues with updates. Thanks again. [Ri...]
This was from a Zeiss tech when we were installing v2019 over v2021. I had all kinds of headaches with Windows 11, reverted back to Windows 10, then reverted back to a version that v2019 was approved for. After Calypso v2019 was working, we tested 2021 and installed 2022. From there we let windows perform regular updates and that seems to be working. "I’m wondering if we’re seeing all these odd issues on that computer because of the Windows version. I think I saw that it was 22H2 yesterday, maybe 21H2? Either way, neither of those are supported versions for CALYPSO 2019. If you can get it running with simulation, I would go with it since the data isn’t important, but if you keep running into issues, I would consider downgrading Windows to a supported version:" Hope this helps.download.png
[Pa...]
Rick, First off - thank you. Secondly, I went and found the corresponding Win 10 Approval status for CALYSPO 2022 in the 7.4 release notes and the highest version of Window 10 Pro is 21H2. We have 22H2 installed on the fresh system, so we may have to do another 'nuke and re-pave' and install at 21H2 if this is even possible as Microsoft forces upgrades at a certain point unless you are on LTSC versions... However, per Microsoft, 21H2 End of Life is this June 23, 2023, so I would hope Zeiss has plans to bump the max Win 10 Pro version (or finally approve Win 11?) So now the question is: has anyone installed 22H2 and what problems if any? or this just a 'recommendation' and not a hard and fast rule?
[Ri...]
I'm currently on v1809, we have an LTSC.
