What you say here is true. However, I feel that the '22 update of icons within Calypso are a problem that should be corrected. These colorless icons are not quickly distinguishable and create eye strain.

Dang it, the last time Zeiss changed icons, the "Result Element" turned into a picture of a person, and im my opinion made it look Sketchy.

This has been a weird pet peeve of mine... they changed it from a keyboard symbol, which arguably makes sense for an icon that has a function for using formulas, to a black silhouette of a Lego person. Who at Zeiss saw noticed that icon and thought to themselves, "this just won't do".

As for the new interface, I'm basically relying on muscle memory to remember what icons do what on my toolbar in some instances. Symmetry and symmetry plane are the exact same symbol, others just aren't intuitive, and the removal of colors from icons has me wondering why any change was necessary to the interface at all. I'm hoping for a return to something resembling the old layout in Calypso 2023.... it's like they wanted to make it look like a version of Calypso from the mid '90s.

Something that bothers me, is how modern design wants to take everything that has beauty or style and turn it into a grey cube.

@ Israel Soto Rodriguez

You write "...is hard to adapt to some changes.. now I'm doing a few extra clicks..."

Can you describe exactly what is your exact difference in the workflow because different icons now have a new more modern design

The greatest travesty has been the change of the Inside/Outside switch inside Cylindrical features, and the Shading On/Off switch.

I'll get accustomed to the change eventually, but right now I'm flying around via muscle memory.

"Modern" is acceptable. However, I think Zeiss has heard enough feedback now to know that the icon problem is not just a modern vs. old style issue.

The new icons are difficult to distinguish from one another. Were they tested among a large enough sample size before they were released? Or, were they just approved because they looked nice?

This may sound like a trivial issue, but user interface is hugely important when it comes to software. It's not just about being able to do something. It's about being able to do things smoothly and efficiently.

I haven't downloaded it yet but, the icon changes in shape and color doesn't encourage me to want to download it. 🙄

Aside from interpretation and distinguishing the differences, we have several dedicated Duramax's CMM's here that the software never gets updated so, trying to train new people on the one system we do keep updated (or new ones) and the old ones becomes more complex and also requires new work-instructions for our applications if they are to be updated.

I realize change is inevitable, it happens more than ever anymore but, it is not always necessary.

Touché 🤣

Next time a change like this is pending, I recommend a Zeiss-internal icon quiz. No, I'm dead serious. Send a couple of icon images to a large group of test users without explanation and let them guess what they mean, or even better, which old icons they probably replace. That might be a very instructive experience.

Since Quantum Mechanics is such a fun/hot topic right now - The wave-function shows that the Circle is in a Super-Position of Inside/Outside, and when you measure the Circle the wave-function will collapse, and it will be either-or.

I heard of it.....Schrödingers CMM....very interesting.
I guess it means that it doesn't matter whether you program an inside or outside element, as long as the CMM is housed in a dark and soundproof box. As long as you you don't open the door to look, it measures and crashes with the same probability in a kind of overlaying double reality, and you miraculously find a PDF with the result and a photo of the broken stylus in the destination folder. Amaaaazing stuff 😮

But if you could change the appearance back to CALYPSO 2021 (7.2) to ease the transition until you were ready to fully swap over to mono-chromatic icons for 2022 and above. Would you?

For those that would....

I apologize to non-US based customers that are unable to view this KB. We are actively piloting a program in the U.S. that will hopefully roll-out on a wider scale soon.
