[Ra...]
I am running a Contura G2 with a Vast XXT and Calypso 2019 vs 6.8.2409. On the base alignment the probe went to pick up an OD in the correct location but did not register it made contact with the part. I got the error "23 Nominal probing point with Pos or step not within search path". I tried to cautiously take a manual point but it would not recognize that it was touching the part. I shut everything down and tried another manual point and it took the point like normal. I ran the program through with no issues and it has been running fine for the last 8 parts. Has anyone had this issue? My concern is if this happens while probing in Z I'll damage the Vast XXT. The XXT is only about 3 years old and just went through calibration in December. [Ke...]
Keep an eye on it for any abnormal behavior, such as not registering points, or wildly wrong vectors when taking a point, but your system is most likely fine. I don't have a technical explanation, but from time to time we do encounter scenarios where a reboot fixes whatever oddity is happening (it is a common enough fix that the classic "turn it off and back on" is one of my go to first steps for CMM issues), and the system carries on running as normal afterwards. I do also suggest shutting the system down every once in a while for this same reason, if feasible. It seems to help prevent things like this, and is likely good for the longevity of the controller, as the controller is essentially a computer, and shutting down a computer from time to time is good practice. [Th...]
Please sign in to view this quote. This is the way. I have had maybe 3 occurrences of a similar issue with my XTG Contura since 2016, and each time rebooting the machine corrected it. Bugs that only appear when a system has been up for a long time make me glad I never got further than 200-level CS courses in college. Bet they're a nightmare to find. [Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. This is most likely something fairly simple. Perhaps the nominal size and/or x-y locations are much different than what the actuals are. Verify that you have the same probe inserted and activated that the CMM thinks it is using. Is the feature defined correctly as either an internal or external hole?
[Je...]
Not that the issue is the same here but this is typically witnessed after a machine crash or red-light event during a measurement. Controller and CALYPSO reboot resolves the issue in most cases unless a crash resulted in physical damage.
[Ra...]
Thanks all for the input. The Size and Location was in tolerance and it looked like the same position on the OD it always went to. Looks like I just need to add a once a month shutdown to the process.
