Measuring Curve distance

I seem to remember a Curve function for measuring distances between two Curves. Is the "proper" way just a matter of creating new curves by recalling from the measured ones, and just creating segments in the sections that apply? Then using the Curve Expansion function?

The highlighted leader line is pointing to the cam section called out, and the poorly drawn red lines are the cam surface and the offset section to be measured.

If I had parts to just experiment on, I would, but here I am....

Yes that practice does sound familiar, I use it often when recalling "normal" geometry from Curves like circles, planes and cylinders. But the two surfaces I'm concerned with aren't circular; they are cams which geometrically-speaking are splines, so the radial distance decreases along the defined area of the cam.

If i would understand what are you trying to achieve, then i'll help, but sorry - i have no clue what is your problem - prehaps 3d view or screenshot from Calypso would help.

There is curve distance in Calypso, but IDK from which version.

I believe the option you are looking for is Curve Distance. 4710_1b555cac99299b1401c5f658eabbf58e.png
This feature allows you to select two curves and evaluate distances based on a set of defined parameters. 4710_5c33a0b8cdddace3ca3f9b7defc4fb84.png
If you are looking for distances at specific radial locations, I advise intersecting the curves with theoretical 3D-Lines or a theoretical plane at the required angle and reporting the distance between the intersection points.

I believe this is exactly what I was looking for. Something in my brain must've short-circuited or something when I was looking at the different options at the time, because just looking at this dialogue box again makes it seem the only obvious choice...
