UNC Path to database files

Dear experts,

PiWeb plus, Version 7.4.14.0
CALYPSO, Version 7.0.16 (04.11.2021)

We run three CONTURA 2014 machines in different locations. To share the reports we copie the database files of each CALYPSO Machine to our file share host in three different directories.
\\myshare\machine1
\\myshare\machine2
\\myshare\machine3

Try to open the reports (database files) we start PiWeb plus, change the path of the database files location at option->CALYPSO. PiWeb plus read the files successfully which can be seen by existing unique measurement from choosen database path.
Try to open the reports we get an error message:
"Das Objekt muss ein Stammverzeichnis sein (C:\) oder ein Laufwerksbuchstabe (C) sein"
Translated:"The object must be a root directory (C:\) or a drive letter (C)"

So I wonder how PiWeb can read the new database files via UNC Path but is unwilling to open the files!

Whats wrong here?
Thanks for any advice or tips.

Best Regards
Karsten

What you're trying to accomplish would be better suited for PiWeb SBS or Enterprise. It's function is to compile measurement results across multiple CMMs, other metrology equipment, and hand tools.

PiWeb Reporting Plus is meant for local display of CMM results and won't support network access, as far as I'm aware.

Dear Laura,

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, you are right: SBS would be the better solution. But to pay arround 15.000€ ( Excluding installation & training ) to share measurement results is simply too expensive.
Unfortunately, Zeiss actively suppressed the use of network paths, probably with the intention of selling SBS. Technically, this is not a problem, especially as the database files are read by PiWeb plus correctly. Only access to them with a symbolic link or mapped drive letter is not possible.

Dear Dale,

Sorry for late reply.

Yes, I have tried symbolic links. Unfortunately it doesn't work. As I have already written Zeiss actively prevents the use of UNC paths even if they are to be reached via a symbolic link.
On the other hand it protects against a possible file ( database file ) conflict when the same program is run at the same time on different CMMs. PiWeb plus assume that the opened database file is opened exclusive...
