Moving a Duramax.

An affiliated company we have has 3 of these Duramax’s and they rarely get moved but when they do, they have Zeiss come in and help brace it and recalibrate it. They have one they currently need to move about 10 feet but, Zeiss won’t be able to assist for 12 weeks, and they need it done ASAP. This particular Duramax only measures one simple two bore product type 5 days a week, nothing else.

Is there anyone here that moves theirs and just does a known artifact check to see if it is still accurate and repeatable to the stable and known artifact nominals after moving and then waits until the annual calibration done by Zeiss?

I realize the cost of doing it incorrectly could be expensive if damaged and nobody that works for Zeiss or with Zeiss would recommend it but, I’d like to hear everybody’s thoughts and experiences if they have moved them. I believe I've read here of others saying they have with no problems but, I can’t find anything in searching for the topic.

Please fill free to PM me to discuss privately if needed.

Yeah i would say that measuring an artifact before and after should be fine. Move it!

but don't listen to me, i'm not the biggest fan of rules & regs & standards & practices.
I don't understand the big deal in moving machines small distances.

We have a Duramax here and have moved it a couple of times with no issues. We used a pallet truck and was extremely careful moving it. Made sure to level it after the move and ran know artifacts before and after the move. Go Slow and everything should work out fine.

Is your company contractually obligated to be certified in terms of measurement? If not, move it.

Have any of you ever let Zeiss move a machine, how much did it cost?

Just the transpositioning, not the calibration afterwards ;)
