Broach

I have this broaching item. My goal is to try to do a linear scan on the TOP of the teeth so that I can gather a Profile of the teeth across from end to end. I know GearPro can do a radial scan in a circular motion. Of course, if it is on a rotary table. Anyone with suggestions on how to do this? The goal is to look at the wear of the teeth across the broach. Not individually looking at one tooth, for wear. I seem to recall a scanning type feature where you could actually do this. Just don't remember where.

Luis,

That is an interesting broach.
Gear Pro definitely has gear tooth capabilities, but it does not support 'rack gears', I suggested it, but they said it is not feasible.

I would try to start with trying to get a CAD model. Next I might ask to see a drawing, and if there is an actual dimension they are after.

With the CAD, you can section cut it to create a curve to measure and pattern it.

Good luck !

Luis,
It sounds like the scanning setting you are looking for might be what is known as "flyscan", which allows scanning while skipping over valleys (with certain sensors)?

Depending on tooth spacing, using a large radius stylus that will achieve minimal drop and scan dragging the stylus (On an RDS I would set the head at 60°), use line scans and Outer Tangential. This should give you the highest points of the scan.
