[Br...]
I do not have PCM so I am trying to use a formula. I want to measure a plane in the Z at a set distance from an arc (2d Curve). What happens is if there is plus stock on the curve then the probe hits it on its way down to the plane. I tried to get an actual from the curve and add probe diameter but I am not getting a result that will compute. Is it possible to use a curve in a formula like this or should I use a different type of feature, like a space point to reference?
[Da...]
Can you recall the feature points of the curve into a theoretical feature (circle) and ask for the distance from the circle?
[Ma...]
I didn't understand your question. When you are creating curve, you are using nominal at some point ( like from drawing ). So feature you want should have some sort of nominal position. You can use max/min coordinate from curve. If you have deviations on curve and want to measure something from curve bestfit, then use alignment from several curves, make theoretical point with this alignment - then recall this point to base alignment ( or feature alignment ) to use formula - OR you can use feature alignment setted from "alignment from several curves"
[Br...]
I do not have several curves, just a single curve so the alignment would not work. Center of the arc is 0 in the Y axis but the plane nominal is 37" from center. What I tried, and seems to calculate correct, is to recall the curve points into a circle, I could then use the formula box and set it as "getActual(Circle1).radius-1.5" which is the difference between the Y nominal of the arc and the plane and that computed to the same nominal as programmed. I cannot test it right now because the stock is removed and the part is running fine with the original program. Its mainly for setups that I needed a way to measure the part. Thanks for the help. [Ma...]
There is alignment section on main menu -> Prepare - you can use alignment even for one curve - it's just named "alignment from several curves".
[Br...]
I did try the alignment but when I had just one curve and hit ok I got an error, can't remember exactly what it said but I had to cancel or it wouldn't let me go anywhere. I'll try again next week. I was able to test the get actual circle radius and it did not work once I simulated a stock condition. I revisited the min/max of the curve and working from engine center, all with no success. I decided to add a space point and referenced that in the formula and it worked as I thought. I then extracted a point from the curve into a theoretical feature and it worked as well so I can get rid of the space point. Thank you for getting the wheels turning. I spend most of my time programming the "other" software so I am still learning the in depth stuff.
