[Da...]
Apparently, the best fit option in the 2D curve feature is supposed to translate and rotate the actual curve, not the individual points, yielding essentially a form only result. This does NOT appear to be the case for me; as it is moving and resorting the points. I know this because not only is it showing this graphically, I have attempted to import the Curve ASCII text file in SolidWorks and I've also confirmed this by looking at the XYZ values. [Je...]
. David, Are you saying that Calypso is resorting the nominal points? The images you posted look like the deviations from measurement of the actual curve. Do you have magnification set to "0"? What do you have stylus radius correction set to? . . . [Da...]
Jeff, the nominal points are not changing. The actual/deviation points are moved and resorted within the curve feature itself. The stylus radius correction is using measured points and magnification is set to 1. I'm relying on the actual points to import to SolidWorks. At the moment I would have to re-sort the points manually in the text file. Otherwise, I receive an error in Solidworks which says that the curve intersects itself. [Je...]
. I see what you mean now, David. That is strange. I'm not sure if you have a Zeiss Care agreement, but your problem looks ticket-worthy. I bet one of the application specialists at Zeiss would like to see that. .
[Ma...]
I would use only needed translation and rotation - so trans in Y and Z and rotation only Z. I am not fan of using all at once juts because of i can - it even doesn't make sense to translate 2d curve in it's axis.
[Da...]
Changing to the stylus radius correction to Nominal Points helped the situation but ultimately some of the points needed to be removed from the evaluation due to complications with computing a spline using the best fit. It seems like a software problem to me because best fit should not re-order/re-sort the points.
