Ünal, there really is only one thing to do, which is to ask the designer for clarification. If the feature to be inspected was drawn coincident/concentric to another feature of size, then position with no datums could be used. In this case, I do not see a legal application of the position characteristic.

Some drawings have a caveat in the notes section that states something along the lines of "All callouts will refer to A|B|C". But it's still missing the diameter tolerance symbol, so I'd really ask for more clarification.

Does it reference multiple holes somewhere else on the drawing?

in such case ask your customer, and if you can't got response take the basic dimension from the CAO (Ø5 from "big diameter")

I always ask me if it make sens to tolerance a localisation at 0.01 mm on a diameter at 0.4 mm ? I don't think so

There are no notes in the drawing

Other holes in the part have positions and references are specified.

We are trying to contact the designer.

The data we have is the hole angle and the center diameter only. 2500_1d304d54c38fe48f9d0f6e2d8291ee84.png

This is likely an older drawing and your basics would be based off R29 and the angle to said hole, 45° or a multiple of and/or the 67.5°. Older dwg. tend to have assumed datums in your case it appears either ID/OD and rotation based off the centerline of holes (A-A or 90° to them). If a customer supplied solid file is available it is always best to get your information from there.

I willing to bet this is the case. I bet this is a drawing from the 80's or earlier.. I see this stuff all the time, and have to reach to the designer stating my interpretation and asking if it's correct in how they want it inspected.

Gentlemen, the technical drawing has just been drawn. It's a very new design.
As you said, the designer may be seventy years old. 🙂

This is part of a new project, we are trying to contact the designer.

It doesn't make much sense to have a 0.01 mm position in a hole diameter with a diameter tolerance of 0.4 mm. 2500_85ffdf6fb47421678146c9747c96b02b.png
