Gear Pro program into Calypso

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I someone can point me in the right direction. I have a Calypso program that checks a round gear case with internal splines. During our Gear Pro training a few years ago. The instructor embedded the Gear Pro program into the Calypso program. So it would check the internal and external dimensions then would move to the Gear Pro program at the end. I still have the training program and have tried to duplicate it with no luck. Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Lou

Lou,

Sure can. I'd be happy to help. Please post further details or PM me.

If you haven't checked any gears or splines since training - I'd suggest reviewing the training material.
At any rate, if you share the gear/spline data I can advise if there is anything atypical , unique to look out for, etc.

Also do you have a rotary table on your CMM ?

Thanks, and good luck,

Chris

Hi Chris,
Thank you. I'm good with checking splines and straight cut gears in Gear Pro. I am not using the rotary table for this application, I do have one and I do use it on occasion. But for what I am doing I didn't use it. I have a working programs for the part I am check which is picture in "Capture". A picture of the program I would like to replicate is listed in "Capture1" where it use Caylpso and Gear Pro is part of the measurement plan.
I know there is Gear Pro "link" to embed into Caylpso some how, I am just unsure how it's done. If there is any further info I need to provide please let me know.

Thanks,
Lou

Lou,

You will find the Gear Pro macro link in Calypso from menu - features - additional features. This will put a gear icon in your features list and characteristics list. You have to make a Gear Program in Gear Pro first - then you can link it so it runs at the end of Calypso run. Once you have a GP program, open the Gear feature in Calypso, choose you alignment, clearance plane, stylus, etc. then you can click the selection button which should open up Gear Pro's file explorer (aka Workpiece Browser), to look in the gear directory for your program. Find your program and select it and it is linked up. Simple as that. Precautions should be taken for correct stylus, feed-in, Z height offsets, etc.

The runout and pitch diameters can be measured in Calypso, the data can kind of also be imported from GP to Calypso after a gear run. If done in Calypso, it is generally done with a probe ball self-centering in the tooth gaps to construct a pitch circle/cylinder.

What you have appears to be pretty standard internal splines.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,

Really????????? Are you kidding me????????
Thats it, thats all I had to do. Chris I followed your instructions and now the Calypso and Gear Pro program works great. I sware the instructor did not make it seem that easy, albeit it was a while ago. But I don't remember it being that simple. UGH I wish I would've asked for help a while ago. This is awesome and makes my life a ton easier!

Thank you Chris Rotolo. You made my day!!!!!!

Lou,

you're welcome and good luck ...

FYI : if you have PCM, there is a way to put the .gear program for example in the Calypso program folder and have it linked there.
In fact the the program can be anywhere on your local drive or network drive.

Good luck, if you need further help, just reach out !

Happy Gearing !
