Problems with BestFit on Freeform surface.

Hi all,

Last week I've measured a freeform surface with 48000 single points.
After the measurement it seems Calypso has problems with calculation a BestFit, because Calypso doesn't response anymore (black screen). See also attachment 'Black screen Calypso.PNG' 😭

When I use 3000 single points with exactly the same measuring program everything works fine 🙂

My questions:
1. Any ideas why 3000 points is working well and 48000 points not ?
2. What is de limit of number of points ?

Background information:
- Calypso version 6.2.28
- One stylus of 8 mm is used

I think its a computation issue. With so many points for best fit, the amount of calculations that need to be performed is enormous and making your Calypso unresponsive. Given time it may be able to solve it and calculation time also depends on your system specs. So lesser points mean less computation time needed and without much lag and unresponsiveness.

I agree with you that 48000 point are enormous and requires a lot of the calculation performance of the system.
So today I have started a new measurement with 'only' 17000 points (without a BestFit calculation).

It will run overnight. Hopefully I can add the BestFit tomorrow and start the calculation.

Today the measurement was successful finished with 17000 points (also the calculation of the BestFit) !
The calculation took only 1 minute calculation time 🙂
So you were completely right about the PC performance (48000 points is just too much to calculate) !

I recall an issue raised by Zeiss about point data.
I think there was a limit of about 20k points or an issue could arise.
It was a year or so back when I read about this.

Hi All.

Also, please remember that Freeform, unlike other components of Calypso, is greatly dependent on your video card. I find that some computational issues arise from out of having older drivers for your card. 48000 points, while significant should be solvable if your system resources are sufficient. If you have an older Calypso version, before the change to the 64-bit platform, then you will also have some challenges.

I believe the limit is 47,999
