Fast movements only in Z+ safe plane

Hello,

Is there way to get calypso move at safe Z plane between element movements? I don't seem to find it from anywhere.

Reason for this is our tight pattersn in some parts, where it's not allowed to move on y+ or -y safe planes. I can get the program right with tweaking, but everytime I change something it could try to get to other side with y axis movements instead of z.

Any help to this?

Without knowing your exact setup, here are some possibilities: [list=]
  • Use 'Block Edges' from the CNC menu. Drawback: If you block too many edges, Calypso will be no longer be able to move around the part and complain about it
  • You can insert extra clearance elements at the end of the strategy list to make Calypso retract to a different clearance plane than it originally came from. So if your feature was originally approached from -Y, first add a -Y and then a +Z element.
  • If everything else fails, you can always add position points to the strategy and make Calypso go wherever you want. For full movement control you can even deactivate the clearance cube in the CNC start settings ("position points only"), but then you need to program each and every movement in all features yourself.

    My experiences are different. One day I transferred a large part to a smaller machine on which it sat close to the -X limit. The clearance plane clearly extended beyond the -X limit. But to my surprise the probe sneaked its way along the outer limit THROUGH the clearance cube at a crawl. 😱

    Through?!? Yeah, we always do one slow run on a new setup of an old program. How a program that did a thirty piece study can crash on a followup run a month later puzzles me.

    Yes, through 😃 At first I couldn't believe it, but it really did. On the other machine it would have moved around the clearance cube on the -X side, but on the new machine there wasn't enough room. So it went through the cube at the lowest possible speed, as if it wanted to say "let's see if we're going to hit anything".

    I guess it was a situation where the intended X position was only slightly outside of the cube. I sometimes see similar movements on an old machine with large parts, when it wants to go to CP +Z for a probe change, but already hits the first of two limit switches before it reaches the Z position. Then it doesn't stop, but slowly crawls on towards the probe rack. But in all those cases the probe was outside of the cube, so it was safe.
    But the program mentioned above really went through the cube, so I had to block the edges to make it go the other way round.

    If I understand your question correctly, Another possible option is to add 2 clearance data after the strategy .

    for example if you were measuring a circle.

    clearance data set to + x plane
    circle path
    clearance data set to + x plane
    clearance date set to + z plane
