[Mi...]
Curious if I'm overthinking this. I'm working on a part that has many planes that are coplanar, but are interrupted cuts - so they are different CAD entities. Like this one: I can just create 3 circle paths to measure all 3 pads, but the Length 1 and 2 are very wrong in relation to the actual feature - Unsure if this will matter for results. I can pattern the first pad 3x, then real feature points into a super-plane, but then I would get into sub-clearance planes to help is run efficiently. This creates a plane with the appropriate lengths. Could anybody tell me which method you would choose and why? Or offer a 3rd, better solution? Mostly I don't like that when I select it, it is only tied to one pad but I think that's unavoidable judging by the posts I've been able to find. [Ma...]
If you will use this plane as base, then it would not matter. You can create 3 planes in this scenario, create strategy and then recall points with recalculation - you will get new plane with correct sizes - then just make it normal plane again and do strategy for it. I tried to create features from CAD by clicking at faces with CTRL key to select multiple faces, but size was wrong still.
[Da...]
Now that I live in the land of points on a model, I found that you can set to points ( not space points) and start placing points on all three surfaces . Calypso will Identify it as a plane and create a feature for you. pretty sure you can then apply circle segments and scan as you need.
[Ia...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Can confirm, this works and it is how I do it. The only annoying thing is that only the original CAD face you select will turn the maroon shade. and not the other two. Sometimes CAD model comparison works, but it is honestly a crap shoot. [Da...]
There was also This viewtopic.php?p=44506&hilit=Model+Plane+Extend#p44506 But it will make the plane permanent and therefore block your view. Read all the way to the end. It is very useful at times.
[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. It won't. The actual plane has its own L1/L2 values and therefore will be calculated correctly. When I was new to Calypso I also tried to get these parmeters right, but today I don't care anymore. Most of the time I create 3 circle segments in the plane strategy, as you described. I can't remember having any measurement issues. By the way, if you create a plane whose size stretches over all 3 segements, CAD model comaprison may fail for this feature, as it compares the nominals of a feature to the size/position of the CAD faces. If the L1/L2 of the nominal plane differs, it's unable to find a matching face.
