How would you measure this distance?

Hello everyone,

How would you measure the dimension shown in red below?

- First of all, I tried to use the Cylindrical C axis as planar rotation, then measure the distance between two planes according to that. And result is = 241.862

- After that I used plane A as planar rotation, and check distance of two planes according to that. Result is = 241. 772

Which one is the correct result? What are your opinions ?

Because of surface finish i would use cylinder C as planar. Or you can use other plane ( marked with n.7 ) as planar.

You can use cartesian distance ( this does not require any alignment ) or use caliper distance with max/min/avg ( here you have to use alignment )

Check Face A with three circle paths. One near the edge, one near the center and one in between those two. Ask for Flatness. If its high, you'll Never get an acceptable result.

If its not too high then I would check cylinder C as two circles and recall to a 3d line . Use that for planar alignment, then Try the distance again.

I also will sometimes use the intersection of the 3d line with both planes and check the distance between intersections, it's not exactly the correct way ,but, I get acceptable and repeatable results this way.

I'm so confused here.

How in the world would Datum C create an axis that can stop the rotation about A?

Do you mean the Spatial Rotation?

Cartesian Distance would be my go to.

Also, make sure you aren't reporting the z value difference between two planes - that is not the same as the distance between two planes.

You can form a Symmetry Plane if you'd like to be able to comply with ASME for fit/function as well as the ability to show the min/max 2-point distance.
