A lot depends on your companies policies. The cert is only the condition of the machine at the time the calibration is done. Once the tech leaves your facility they can't say that the machine is in spec because they do not have control of the machine once they leave. Most places I have worked for use annual calibrations for CMMs, but the intervals may be 6 months, annually, 3 months, whatever your company policies are. The argument to increase the frequency sometimes has to do to the tolerances you measure being very small and the conditions the machine operates in can cause issues. Also to decrease the frequency and go to 18 months or 2 years sometimes is driven by the data not really shifting much from calibration to calibration.

To answer your question directly the cert is only good until the tech leaves. What your company accepts is a matter of your policies, but typically 1 year.
