[Cl...]
Contura G2 - RDS/XXT/TL1. Behaving oddly. It jerks when rotating, and sometimes abruptly stops in the middle of a rotation and errors out. No collisions have occurred.
[Cr...]
Your RDS could be bad. I've been told by a few Zeiss techs that the RDS is only good for so many rotations and then they will wear out. They gave a number of rotations but I can't remember what it was. My company has had to replace a few RDS on our Contura G2 and Spectrum when they started doing funny stuff like you're describing
[Cl...]
Thanks for the response Craig. I was hoping that MAYBE it was something else going on, as it has had no crashes.
[Er...]
We have had to replace ours for the same reason, just wore out.

[Ke...]
I know that Zeiss quantified the RDS life by the number of rotations... but how long did yours last (how many years & running how many shifts?)

[Cl...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I believe that RDS is at least 20 years old. 5-6 days a week, both shifts.
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I have been told this as well. Then Zeiss makes all these unnecessary articulations before and after every tool change... 🙄
[Er...]
And let's be honest, most of them are refurbished, tested, and then sent out again. I imagine these have less life than a new one. When ours wore out, they brought one in to be installed, and it wasn't working properly. They had to ship in another next day, to be installed. [Cr...]
Please sign in to view this quote. You are totally correct. When one of our CMMs needed a new RDS, the replacement showed up with a very large gouge. The Zeiss tech installed it and did not pass his tests. He had to order another one.
