CMM pathing inside a cylinder

Hello everyone,
So long story short, when I measure a cylinder lets say, in the Y or X axis, the styli will not go to the first scan path immediately, it will go to the far end of the part, then go across the part to the start path. If I reverse the paths, it just goes in the opposite side and repeats the same thing. Anyone have a fix for this? I tried using position points and the software ignores it. I have also tried using sub clearance planes and it will go to the sub-clearance plane, move to the far end, then move right back to scan the cylinder. It also does this for circles and this is creating a serious amount of extra programming time on parts.

Any help would be appreciated on this issue.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Scott

I'm not sure if this is the same issue I observed, but I also have several programs where after a probe change the stylus moves above CP+Z almost to the middle of the part (maybe it's really the opposite end of a cylinder it's about to measure - I don't remember), then back behind CP+Y, then inside the part and starts to measure.
All my safety distances are set to zero, so that can't be the cause. It does this since many Calypso versions and I have no clue why.

Norbert,
Everything is normal on clearance planes.
Erik,
I tried reversing the axis and it switches to the opposite before moving over to run the cylinder.
Tom,
I have the window(s) attached.

It's a pathing issue I know but nothing I do will fix it other than programming circles and then recalling them into cylinders which is easy for the most part, unless you have 60 cylinders to make....

Thanks in advance for all your help 🙂

Be aware when recalling circle points into cylinders I have gotten different results. Recalled circle points perpendicularity was 0.003" and cylinder was 0.005" in comparison. My best guess is Calypso is not recalculating the vector for the recalled points.

Calypso 5 for what it's worth.

If you have that many cylinders to program, i would suggest programming the first one, and then use the paint tool to to paste the measurement strategies to the rest of the cylinders. It will save you a ton of time.

If your clearance plane is -X and you are using #3 +X stylus, then shouldn't your space axis X or -X? It is Y in your picture.

Hi Jason,
The "Y" is the axis of the cylinder, not the direction of the probe. So the part is in the "Y" axis, therefor the spatial is also in the Y axis for the cylinder. Cutting and pasting cylinders is not an option since the cylinders all have obstacles in different locations. I contacted Zeiss directly and it' a "optimization" within the program for efficiency.... So I can't get away from the pathing the CMM chooses. Thanks for everyone's help though. Fantastic ideas and I tried them all.

Thanks,
Scott
