Auto Focus optical qualifications

Has anyone seen the message "Autofocus: The Max. focus value could not be determined. Please check the contrast" for optical qualification autorun for a Zeiss O-Inspect 322? Program will pick the reference points with probes but this message comes up when tying to focus optics to start qualifications.

Adjust your light and contrast setting for the feature you are trying to measure. If that does not work, see if the Z axis nominal for the feature you are measuring needs to be adjusted.

A little background knowledge:

The auto focus works like this:
While moving in the Z direction, the camera takes a series of images. Then the software compares all the images, looking for the one with the highest contrast between the brightest and darkest pixel (inside the focus frame). The image with the highest contrast is also the sharpest (because the more blurry an image gets, the more it approaches a uniform grey with no contrast at all).
So what this message means is that the software is unable to detect a sufficient number of different gray shades and therefore can't decide which image is the sharpest.

As suggested above, try adjusting your lighting settings in a way that improves contrast, i.e.the bright areas get brighter and the dark areas get darker.

If and when this happens, there are some things to consider

- Did it just start happening?
- is it just with this one part or consistent?
- can you program just a manual autofocus point without getting the error?

As suggested above, look in your stylus management screen and see if the Z value of the magnification looks "normal". By normal I mean around -51mm... do you see a large deviation compared to the other magnifications?
