I don't even like doing disc probes. So many limitations and a pain to setup correctly.

I used to say that were no, but I've been corrected, so now I say there are few cases were you absolutely have to use a disc. Most of the time you can build a star or t-shaped stylus systems.

We have many parts that have undercut diameters that are underneath the threads and there isn't a ton of room to get a ball stylus in there so we use disk styli.

I'll say this, since you have to constantly offset your X/Y/Z values manually for a disk stylus, locations tend to not come in as accurate for me, but the disk styli always seem dead nuts on diameters.
