XXT with RDS

Recommended Posts

I haven't used an rds in over 10 years. So I programmed some Z minus points with the probe at 90,90. I programmed an rds rotation point far above the part, so as not to impact the table or part. The machine goes to Y plus clearance plane and starts to rotate right there without moving to the Z+ location. I E-stopped the rotation before hitting the plate. What am I doing wrong???

In my example, I am taking a point on the shoulder with a long probe tilted at A0 B-87.5 then to avoid going up to index to A0 B-90, at standard safe position to measure the c'sink and smaller ID, I use several position points.

The problem is a position point that involves an index is that it will do the index first and then move to the position. So, generally an extra position point might be required.

I do a 2d line under the part, then I am doing a small space point group, that's also under the part, then I want to retract and go to the rotation point I created using rotation/swivel position. R/S probe to 0,0 and proceed with the rest of the part.

What is the rotation/swivel position used for?

Swivel position controls where all RDS indexes take place, instead of automatically clearing the +Z CP only.

If the next feature uses A0B0, you don't need a swivel position. If your line and space points are all using the same stylus angle and are all using CP+Y, it should go out and up and index above the +Z CP for the next feature.

Tip. If the path between the line and the space points, and the path between all of the space points have no interference or obstructions between them, i.e. line of site, try using SCP+Y for the line and all of the space points. That will keep the stylus from coming out to the +Y CP between the line and all of the space points.
