Inheriting Z-direction from the machine alignment

We're using the setup in the attached pic to track the machine's stability over time. The issue I'm having is that, because the spatial axis (Y+) is 45 degrees off every coordinate plane, the planar rotation inherited from the machine alignment is unpredictable. (We've had it point the Z+ direction toward the granite.) Thoughts?

Thanks, but I've tried adding points for planar rotation, and they've had no effect. In fact, I have to have the point that sets the Y origin above the axis of the reference. I've tried using that to set the Z+. I've also added a point on top of the cylinder. Still no joy.

Make setup program where you will save alignment. Then in main program just load this stored alignment.

You can load alignment as your base alignment, or you can load it as char. to use it for elements. Play with it 😃

You will create new program where you set up your base alignment ( aka directions, zero point ... ) and manually or by CNC get touches. Then it is stored alignment.

Then on main program you can create new alignment from features, or edit or load saved. Loading saved alignment will act like on autorun.
Or you can load saved alignment as characteristic - it's somewhere in menu. You select your "setup" alignment, create theoretical feature ( aka. plane or point ) and set it as this loaded alignment. Then you can have some refference point from it.

I think that some pictures should be better, but i am out of time.

I like this idea. This is going to be run monthly, so I can't be sure that the vice will be in the same place relative to the 8" reference. Would it work to have a plane in the start alignment? I loop the base alignment, so I don't want to have a measurement strategy that has to run each time it loops. If I put the plane in the start alignment, would that straighten out the orientation issues?
