Job Title?

Current position: Senior Development Technician

When I job hunt, I use CMM Programmer, but I prefer "Metrologist" as the equipment that I use for inspection is not limited to the CMM. I may start negotiating my job title, in the future.

Was used to be called 'CMM programmer'.... still am at current company.
But different companies throw in some fancy stuff as well. Like technician, 'principal' .....
I was always used to classifications like 'journeyman' ,leadman (leadperson now to be PC) foreman (foreperson) manager, director.....etc
The titles now get exotic.... but if you work with anyone long enough... you mentally apply your own title to each, not necessarily using the HR categories... 😎

I have had so many.

Lead Inspector, CMM Programmer, Application Engineer, Quality Supervisor, "The Police", "Bottlenecker", "Ruby Bouncer". Just depends on who you ask and what mood they are in.

"Assistant QC Lab Supervisor", though I have added "CMM Programmer" to my e-mail signatures. I also recall being introduced as the main CMM programmer, though I have been the only active programmer for years now.

Moving away from the programming scene. Moving into a Quality Engineer position. I'm still the Calypso/zone 3 expert at my company so i'm sure ill still be the "go to guy" in that realm...

My current title is CMM Programmer.
I do programming, troubleshooting, gage calibration, Layouts, random inspection, some engineering duties.

Higher-ups call me THE cmm programmer since I am the only one here for 9 CMMs. They hate that I am the only cmm guy but they don't want to hire another.

I hate trying to find a job though. Half the job offers I get, they must only see programmer and assume it means I am a software programmer. I also feel like I can't really go anywhere though. Most of the jobs seem like they are Quality techs at lower pay or something engineering-related which I don't have a degree for so I don't know that I could do those either.
