How hard is it to learn other CMM softwares?

I have used Calypso to write full programs for complex parts for 4 years already, but heard of other software like Pc-Dmis, Mcosmos, Aberlink, Inspect3D, etc. Is it hard to learn anyone of these software if I have been programming for 4 years using Calypso? I understand they are extremely different from Calypso? Which of the software would be easiest for me to learn since I've only ever used Calypso? Which of the software is the most used on the market and worth spending time and money to learn? Thank you in advance for your response.

The most common one is PC-Dmis which isn't that hard to learn if you already know one software.

That's the only other one I've used. I think once you know one it's easy to learn another.

You can learn a lot about PCdmis just by searching youtube and looking on pcdmisforum.

I think Calypso is the best one though so it might be hard to go from Calypso to a "lesser" software.

Hi there

Because of my job change, I switched from a Wenzel measuring machine to a Zeiss Prismo ultra.
The "Quartis R13" measurement software was running on the Wenzel, and I have to admit that at the age of 47, I struggled with Calypso.
The "philosophy" of Calypso is very different from that of Quartis or Mcosmos of Mitutoyo.
Calypso is strong in parameterizing with PCM.
Unfortunately, to exhaust the full potential of Calypso, you have to be an engineer or come from IT programming.

I use Calypso and Power Inspect (Autodesk). From my experience both in using and then teaching others here is that it does not take much to switch over. The main thing is that they all basically do the same thing, so once you know one software, the main thing is learning how the other software does it. I have had some people that just can't do it, but mostly its pretty easy.

One good example I use here is that when trying to program an offset feature, one software what's to know the the offset is from feature 1 to feature 2. The other software wants to know the offset from feature 2 to feature 1. In that case, it just a + or - sign.

  • 4 weeks later...
I did manage to learn all other CMM softwares within one day only after 6-8 years experience with Calypso so I would say no problem.

Aberlink I would say 2 hours as is very basic and looks like it costs $10
Mitutoyo one afternoon, however is very old fashion these days.
PC-Dmis as same advanced as Calypso, but just different way of using it. More command based rather than graphic. It has built in a lot of options, where in Calypso you need to use PCM instead.

Calypso is my number 1. in any way.
