[Ma...]
Every so often, the probe unscrews without my knowledge, so I spend time trying to figure out why I get bad measurements only to discover that my probe became unscrewed. How can I prevent this from happening? It continues to happen after I tighten the probe.
[SH...]
Please sign in to view this quote. What type of probe you are using, is it supplied by Zeiss or someone else? You have to tight it well, still it loose then you have to replace it.
[Ch...]
I would replace the probe or the cube. Whichever is causing the problem. The cost of a new probe will be much less than generating bad data and spending time re-running parts.

The probes came new and this has been happening since I got them (not insanely often but once in awhile). I got them this January when I got the machine. [SH...]
Yes I had faced this issue 1 year ago,my rack's adapter plate holder was not working well and I replaced it I got new one from Zeiss.
[Ch...]
Is the problem isolated to the same cube? or are you saying that all of your probes get loose in all of your cubes. To me, it seems unlikely that all of the probes and cubes would not hold torque. It is probably isolated to a specific cube. I have probe systems that have maintained torque for years. [Ma...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I don't know because I usually use the same cube. The issue might be that I've been tightening by hand instead of using a wrench. How did you tighten your probe?
[Ke...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I always use a wrench, and never have an issue... I know that hand tightening may be insufficient (observing others) 😃
[Ch...]
I would highly recommend a wrench. The term wrench is deceiving. Any steel rod that will fit in the hole will work. You don't need to Hulk Hogan the probe to the cube. Just snug will do.
[Ma...]
Also a good practice is to scan in the direction that tightens the stylus if at all possible. This is especially true when using a disc stylus. Mark
[Ch...]
A cool test would be to measure a circle against the direction of the threads and set the Angle Range to 10,000 degrees.
[Ri...]
I think that would have to be some serious torque to cause it to unscrew. I've never seen one do it. I'm not saying it's not possible, I've just never experienced it.
[He...]
Please sign in to view this quote. If you are using only your hands to tighten the cube or extension that is probably the reason. Either you get yourself some pin that fits in the hole or you buy two pairs of hook wrenches from Zeiss. I think they are great to use. about $15 a piece. Which is not that much money. They are more or less indestructible and will last you forever. 626109-0012-000 for Ø11 626109-0013-000 for Ø20
[Ma...]
Thanks for the suggestion. Yesterday I used a wrench from my Zeiss kit to tighten the probes. 😜
[Ma...]
Please sign in to view this quote. That happened because I was doing finger-tight. I wasn't using a wrench. 🤣 Yesterday I tightened the probes with a wrench so hopefully they'll stay now.
[Am...]
Would definitely use the wrench always, I have seen this happen when people try to hand tighten. If you can undo it by hand its most likely going to come loose in normal use. Ive never had an issue using the wrench, avoid tightening to hard with the wrench Ive had someone tighten it too hard and the extension actually became loose where it connects to the adapter plate that is not supposed to be able to turn. By trying my wrench broken and the extension separate itself from the screw attached with the cube 🙂
