Drives just turn off

CMM Has been going fine all day and about 5 mins ago I went to do an auto probe change and the drives turn off at the probe rack. Going left to right, not sure whats going on. This is the most this machine has eve been used. The drives even shut off when trying to home. It's only during Auto. Manually driven it's fine.

See attached for the error

This could be a service issue with either the Sensor being damaged or a setup issue with the firmware or a loose hard stop. In any event, you should probably call Zeiss Service and get a tech out there to look at the machine.

Does it tend to shut off in one particular axis? My thoughts could also be dirty scales. If the machine hasn't been used much, this makes sense. What kind of machine is it?

Was this error code ever addressed? I have the same error code, sorta the same circumstances. Machine {Duramax} stopped running. I was called in after the fact and was initially told it had been crashed. I discovered that the drives would not turn on. I shut the machine down {unplugged the power source}, restarted the computer and brought the machine back up. At this pint, I could get the drives to turn on. I could manually drive in all three axes without issue.

The machine wanted to Home Out as it always does when it's been restarted {drives} but stopped and pulled a red light when it travelled up in Z+. That's when it displayed the E 7925! Axis reason code. Once this happens, the only way to get the dives on again was to repeat the about procedure, {total shutdown and restart}.

I discovered what my issue was, contaminated Z Axis encoder. Cleaned it with a lint free wipe and alcohol.

The "E 7925! Axis reason" code was due to the machine not being able to read the encoder until it maxed out and read the travel limiting bar code. Normally, you see something like a "Hardware End Position" type code when it reaches the max in travel but in this case, the machine had been shut down, lost it's position and needed to be returned to Home Position to re-orient. It did not know it was at it's max travel but it did read that max travel limiting code.

If you ever get this code after travelling too far along any of the axes, remove the covers for that axis and clean the encoder as a 1st step in trouble shooting.

😮 😱

Some CMMs have experienced a similar error. In this case, the CPU fan of the C99 controller was defective, which led to drives after a certain time.
Can see man in the BIOS of the C99, or open cover. But beware!!! No guarantee!!!
For the adventurous, we change them ourselves.: D

It could be any number of things. If you sneeze wrong, the drives will shut off. Okay, maybe not that, but there are a lot of factors involved in it. Most of the time when I'm experiencing this problem it's usually due to it erroring out because of lag. When the CMM starts to accelerate and there is something present like friction it'll cause the motor current to max out and shut the drives off.
For starters, check and make sure all surfaces are clean and that air lines are free of moisture. If all else fails, a service call to Zeiss may be in your future. Good luck!
