Clearance/Retract Distance Issues

I'm taking surface points around an internal profile of a gage and no matter what number I use for the clearance and retract value, the stylus won't clear the other side of the profile. It goes in to take the point on the profile, but it keeps hitting the center hub where it's at it's narrowest. Have no problem with the remainder of points once it gets past these two narrow areas. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try setting the clearance distance to 0.000, then set Retract to just a few thousandths. What size probe are you using? Do you have Curve?

If you're using a VAST or VAST XT (not XXT) head, forward deflection may be a possible reasen too. Above a certain speed these heads first move the probe in the desired direction before the head follows (to detect collisions as early as possible). In narrow spaces this can sometimes lead to unwanted collisions. If this is the problem, lower the speed until deflection switches off.

We're still in the dark ages here. I'm using a MH20i head with an older version of Calypso. I tried setting the clearance value to .010 and the retract to .005, but that's not working either.

Sorry Mike, I am not familiar with that configuration. It may have some built in parameters. Maybe someone else here can help you. 😕

Thanks everyone for your efforts in trying to help me out with this. Since the distance from the top of the gage to the top face of the center hub is .030", I was able to move the points up so that they would avoid hitting the hub. I thought maybe there might be something I was missing in my clearance/retract settings. You guys have a wonderful day.
