Simulation with RDS and VAST XXT Sensor

I have noticed when using the “stylus system creator” and “simulation” on machine with a RDS probe head and VAST XXT sensor, the stylus is not contact with the feature I am trying to measure. Do anyone know why this is happening? Attached is a screenshot of the values I entered for the “Stylus System” tab in the CMM configuration on my offline seat. I received these values from Zeiss many years ago.

Lonnie, those numbers look like they could be for a different set-up, i.e. RDS/Renishaw. The values David posted are correct for RDS/VAST-XXT

Nope.. Vast XXT. I had the same issue with simulation not contacting the model. Zeiss Tech support adjusted these. On our off line seat there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the Extras>Settings>CMM>Stylus system

The contura tab has

Xs=0.0
Ys=60.0
Zs=192.900

On the simulation tab I have:

Xs= 0.0
Ys= 55.0
Zs= 135.00

Vast XXT RDS

On the contura tab mine is
Xs 0.000000
Ys 60.000000
Zs 191.700000

While the simulation tab
Xs 0.000000
Ys 0.000000
Zs 0.000000

I had to get these numbers from Zeiss as well. I just had this problem. Then we had to import the probe after reconnecting to the simulation tab.

All,

I am using Calypso 2017 (Version 6.4.04). Does the software version make a difference for Xs, Ys, and Zs values?

No, but there were some older versions of software that may have had a hiccup or two and needed the latest service pack.

Hey Lonnie, Can you post a screenshot of your RDS/VAST-XXT and MasterProbe in Stylus System Simulation using the configuration that uses the 0,55,135 values.

Here is the adaptor plate.. I think I see where you're going.. The adaptor plate is significantly lower than it should be, but the stylus contacts the parts during simulation.

The 0,55.00,135.00, xs,-ys,-zs settings are from the old RST days. A trigger head Zeiss sells for the RDS head. 0,65,192.00, xs, -ys,-zs values are more typical of XXT. I have found different versions and different SP's, especially those involving major changes to the Stylus System Creator can require "tweaks" to the initial Stylus System fields but more then likely it's "tweaks" to the qualification data for the individual styli position of a single styli. I have used "Plan/Travel to nominal position" for that. There are a couple things you may want to do first, like set your styli radius to zero. When you travel to your nominal point, the styli should be at ball center.
