I have a part that requires me to measure a face that is .015" thick. I can use a .5mm stylus to do this, but their are other features on the part that require a larger stylus size. I don't have a probe changer or anything like that, so I'm restricted to using one stylus for the entire part (old CMM). I was thinking that I could hold a gage block on the top of this face and offset these points to the thickness of the gage block which would then represent this face. I don't know of a way to offset the points. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.

Who says you have to measure a narrow surface with a narrow probe? A larger probe is still only going to touch the surface at the very tip.

Thanks for the reply, but the only problem I have in using a large stylus is that I can't see the exact point being taken due to the size of the ball. I'm basically doing that now with inconsistent results.

Thanks

I'm not very well versed in using formulas. Can you give me an example of the formula to use? Thanks

why not use circle path for the end radial section. Since you are aligned you can do some quick math and place the paths centerline , adjust the diameter, and limit the path to 180 degrees. Do the same for the other end . Add a poly line for each side and you're done. Since the probe will track exactly where you told it to, you can use a larger probe without worrying about it falling off the edges. The first time you do this it will take a bit of time , but it gets easier as you do more. 🙂

Excuse my Power Point, haven't done it since high school... 🤣

I use Formulas a ton in my programs for a lot of lazy things. My instructions are only for measuring a thin wall plane...There's a billion different ways to use Formulas and typically they are used with Result Element.
