Resources for getting started with O-INSPECT

Our company recently got an O-Inspect 322 and I'm looking for learning resources. I've already taken the Calypso basic training course, and I will be taking the Calypso O-inspect optics only class at some point in the future. I need to get started with the o-insect now and looking for any intro tutorials to help started. I've been reading the manual and teaching myself to take manual measurements and program parts with the camera. I'm making progress but it's quite a learning curve. I've been searching and haven't found any basic O-inspect programing tutorials I can follow along with. If can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello,

Congratulations for your purchase !

My factory want to get a new optical solution this year, we only have a profile projector Mitutoyo PJ-A3000.

We are going to visit a Zeiss showroom this friday, for a demonstration of the O-inspect.

We also look a Keyence IM-8030, really more easy to program, but no probing on it...

Impatient to look what you have to said on it guys, the optical programmation on Calypso seams not so hard with a lot of practice, but I think they are a lot of tips to know !

Sorry to move away of your subject, but my question on this machine is how do you calibrate and verify the alignment between your probing and optical head ? I admit that is raises questions for me !

The machine should have come ready with a program that calculate the offset between tactile and the optical (camera).

This uses a ring gauge and the 3x50 probe. It is named: Tactile_Optical_Adjustment_Check.

But be aware of the fact that there were several different versions of the tactile/optical adjustment program over the years. They differ slightly for different cameras etc.

When you install Calypso, also install the additional inspection plans from the installer. They end up in a directory somewhere in the Calypso folder together with some service plans and the like. I don't remember the exact path, but you'll know it when you see it. In there you'll find the most recent version of the adjustment plan for your system. There should also be a PDF document in the measurement plan folder, explaining how to use them and which one to use.

All in all I'm not the greatest fan of our O-Inspect. Ours is quite old however, with only a few LEDs for lighting, which always made it difficult to find proper light settings. It depends a lot on which parts you have to measure. Also, in my opinion, Calypso wasn't made for optical measurements and there are way too many quirks for my taste when I'm trying to use the full potential of the software. I could write many pages here, but that won't help you. If you do everyday tasks with it, you'll probably be quite happy with it 🙂

Thanks so much, I'll look for the installed service plans and inspection plans and see what I can learn. I'd like to start using the machine for simple manual measurements and that's been more confusing than I expected. There's so much good material for CMM programing on YouTube I'm kind of surprised I can't find any videos on the O-inspect. Does anyone have experience O-inspect optics only class? Did you find it helpful?

Optical measurements in Calypso were neglected by Zeiss in terms of documentation for many years. Even the help file contained next to no information about optical functions. This has only changed in recent years, but I still miss not only 'good' but ANY official tutorials to this day.
