[Pa...]
Brand new CMM tech here, haven't even been through basic yet. Been hitting up the University of Youtube to keep me afloat at my job before they send me for classes. I'm working on a PCB and tasked with measuring position of the tooling holes (one in each corner) and the surface profile of the routered edges. I do not have a CAD to program off of and have been struggling with these callouts. When I input the characteristic for position and put the plug in datum A, my measurement becomes 0. This is happening for all four holes. If I input my base alignment for my datums, I get a much more believable measurement, but that also doesn't seem right. The profile measurement isn't calculating at all, but I have both of my datums plugged in. I read somewhere that inputting the same datums again can yield a measurement (and it does) but the box is still pink, indicating an issue with the measurement. Any advice? I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but a measurement of 0 for position on all four holes tells me that I did *something* wrong.
[Ma...]
You should be using TP pattern of 4 holes - not individual ones ( click that second button under TP name "Position 1" ). Then you have to fill all three with your plane "Z" For profile A|B - just use alignment from pattern. If it will be powercharger, then i hope they will use safety capacitor class "Y" 😄
[Pa...]
Thank you so much for your response. That makes complete sense about using bore pattern. Did I set this up correctly? (Renamed Z to Datum A) Could you explain the profile AB more? How do I set up a bore pattern as an alignment?
[Ma...]
It seems ok. BUT on your drawing is profile callout with special circle on arrow - that means one profile callout ( not 4 like you have ) and it means all around, so all 4 sides with corner radiuses. If you have free form, then it's easy - just measure all, recall all measured points into FF and use that for profile.
[Ha...]
FYI, when tolerancing a cylinder feature back to a plane in a position characteristic, make sure the cylinder depth is non-zero, or that the projected tolerance length is non-zero. Having either of those values set to zero will likely result in 0.0000 since it's essentially a perpendicularity callout.
