Probe Qualification Issues

Hi all

I am trying to qualify a probe that is approx 220mm in length on the RDS head. I believe it may be 'vibrating' as it scans the sphere, causing it to lose contact and alarming out. 

I have probing behaviour set too 'Sensitive' and dynamic '100%'. 

Can someone explain to me what these values change in probing qualification so I can fully understand it.

Hey,

I think the probe is too long and heavy for the RDS. I think I know that the TL3's maximum length is 150 or 180 mm. And the TL1's weight with the plate can't be more than 10 or 12 grams.

Just for shots and goggles, try qualifying using Robust.  Technically, the max length for TL3 is 150mm.

The Probing Behavior is how much deflection is applied to the stylus before it records the points.

Standard = 150µm (.059")

Sensitive = 100µm (.0039")

Robust = 200µm (.0078")

The Probing Dynamic is the time it takes before the point is registered.

For goggles and shots I had a play, and it managed to work on 'sensitive'. I manually calibrated the probe a few times by touching the sphere as close to the probing direction as I could. 

So to clarify, technically the probe is too long. Do you recommend I purchase a different 'TL' plate to suit? With the probe length, the chance for deflection error is higher therefore 'sensitive' would be the appropriate setting yes?

The TL2/TL4 is what you want if you truly need long probes on the XXT.

Last dumb question, how can you tell the difference between plates. Looking through what we already have, should they be serialised on the plates?

TL doesn't refer to the mounting plates, but rather to the VAST XXT sensor. It's written somewhere on the sensor to indicate which one it is.
