Unwanted Skipping of Deformed Areas During Strain Analysis – How Can I Fix This?

Hello,

I’m trying to perform a strain analysis on an analogue tectonic experiment, but it seems that Zeiss Correlate avoids the areas where heavy deformation occurs. Is there any way to fix this issue? These are actually the most important regions for the experiment.

Also, since the experiment was conducted in 2006 without considering optical strain measurement, the pattern quality is quite poor. However, there are very clear grid lines, if that helps in any way.

Hello Can,

As I can see from the distorted image, the distortion in the second image is too great, which leads to a destruction of the facets. You can try larger facets with larger spacing, but this has a negative local effect. You can also try adjusting the interpolation while constructing the surface component, but with a value of 1 or 2, as this will affect your solution. Of course, I'm not sure if this will work, but you can try it.

Regards
Mohamed
