Angle Point (Special Geometry)

Recommended Posts

It seems like you have to specify origin of measured plane ( where this point lies on ), angle and axis and it should give you angle of plane instead of measuring whole plane.

But i've never used that, so you would need to play with it. I had to read translated manual for better understanding.

I used the the X, Y and Z value of the plane, along with the projection angle.   When I placed a point on the surface (like I did with Radius Point) and the vector snapped so some weird angle.   I think I'm close but missing something.

This could give you a couple lines to use angles between features on 0° theoretical and the projections.  Or you could pull the A2 right off the projections.

Edit:  On second look, the edge at 5° might not even intersect the center of the circle?  If that is the case then the drawing isn't constrained enough and this solution wouldn't work.

I think i got it figured out.

If you want to get angle from center, then set origin in angle point as XYZ=0 - angle W leave at 0.
Now select axis as Z. Now touch that point on the part. This should give you your angle.

Again it's working like trigonometry. Specifying axis as Z it should calculate only with X and Y as delta from origin and touch point ( using ATAN(X/Y) )

I would measure as two points, and construct a 3d line to the center of your choice, and perform the angle between features check between the two 3d lines. For an extra step, you can project the points and center of your choice to a plane of your choice, so that you can force them to all be on the same working plane before creating the 3d lines.

A fun fact, you can also perform an angle between features with just points, as it will create the the third point of the triangle for you based on the alignment that the features were measured in, so you can technically just skip all of those steps I just said, and measure the points in an alignment of your choice, and bam.

Sorry to waste everyone's time.  Looking closer, the angle dimensions are the angles of end planes, not an angular location to the center of the circle.  There is a general note that all undimensioned features to fall under 0.25 Profile to ABC.

Would still like to hear about how an Angle Point is "supposed" to work.
