Excel Export Issue on One of Two CMMs – Seeking Insight

Hi all,

We’re currently experiencing an issue with one of our CMMs. Both machines are set up side by side. One is exporting Excel data as expected, while the other is only generating the header information in the Excel report—no measurement data is included. Both systems are exporting PDFs without any issues.

My initial thought was that the Excel template file on the second CMM might be corrupted. I tried replacing it with the working template from the functional CMM, but that didn’t resolve the issue. I also replaced the INI file, again with no improvement.

I wasn’t involved in setting up these machines and have limited experience with how Calypso handles Excel templates. If anyone has insight into how Calypso generates these reports or knows of other files/settings that might influence this, I’d really appreciate your input. Suggestions are very welcome!

Thanks in advance!

I need to follow this, because one day in the not too distant past, IT updated something, and my Offline seat creates blank excel files (Header data only).

Excel365

Zeiss "xls" template.

Oddly enough, none of the other live seats have an issue.

Seems to be missing information in those instructions.

At the section: Updating Custom Excel Templates For Excel 16 or Higher

Select the “ThisWorkbook.RunReport” Macro and click Edit

(Dialog box is displayed in the instruction).

The last instruction states: Select everything in the box shown below and copy this text. Open your custom report and follow the same steps to take you to the same Macro we just copied. Paste the copied text over the same area to replace your custom report with the new updated code.

But there is not further information as to what should be copied.

Morning all,

Thanks for all the feedback!

I have tried 80% of the suggestions in the guide that Zak mentioned. None were successful unfortunately.

Microsoft 365 is not applicable, so I didn't try to repair.

We do use QC-calc, so I do want to adjust the retrieval time suggestion. Does anyone know where to find this setting in QC-Calc?

If that doesn't work, I am going to try calling the hotline.

I was confused at first as well. The guide is describing to copy the new template macro code, that is found in the newest version of calypso public docs folder, into your old template macro module if I am not mistaken.

Open Excel. File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Macro Settings>Enable VBA Macros and Enable Excel 4.0 macros when VBA macros are enabled. You may also need to add the template path to the "Trusted Locations".

Hey Joseph,

If you are using QC Calc, I would probably put money on that causing that. It usually uses the table files to import the data, but the Excel output in Calypso also uses these files, so you have 2 different software packages trying to access the data at the same time and the results are not predictable.

As a test, I would either try to turn off QC Calc (I have no idea how to do that), or save the table files somewhere other than where you are saving them now (just in like a folder on the desktop) so that QC Calc does not know where to look for them. If the Excel report works after that, you have your cause.

This document covers how to change the saving location of files. It should help with that test.

Thanks for the suggestion Kyle. I will def rule this out, but I wouldn't put money on it as we have 2 other machines with QC-calc running with no issues. I'm going to poke around before I leave today to hopefully. Ill also try to add that delay timer if I can find where the setting lives in QC-calc.

I am also going to verify the INI File is located in the XLstart directory. This could have not been loaded when IT upgraded to Excel 16.

I have seen this many times before. I've even seen it happen after updating. Some machines would work, others wouldn't. Having multiple programs going after the same file at the same time is not a good situation and it is completely unpredictable. Your other machines could hypothetically start doing this at any time as well. Unless there is another error that is popping up that I am unaware of, I'm pretty confident, especially if the data in the header area is correct.
