Essentially it controls how the actual data from the feature is subdivided, usually in the case of a form control. It is suggested to turn on the CAD evaluation, and changing the fixed width to see the impact of the changes. Unfortunately they don't tell you how the characteristic is being calculated if you choose "By Automatism". Logic would have me think it doesn't section the feature at all and uses all of the points. I can see where you're coming from. The more precision the feature is (IE: Jig grinding, surface grinding, etc.) we're probably not going to see a whole lot of difference.
