Automatic Feature Naming

Is there a way to have the feature name include information like
- Diameter of a Circle

- Z Value of a Plane

- Diameter and Length of a Cylinder

I am regularly inspecting hydraulic motor housing and manifolds that have many holes, with many different diameters.

It would be great if as i am creating the feature the feature name can automatically include some detail of the feature that i am creating.

My current workflow is to create a set of features and group them, then rename them like so 'CRL 5.0 #1, CRL 5.0 #2, CRL 5.0 #3' - 'CRL 8.6 #1, CRL 8.6#2'
and so on.
I find that i spend more of my time naming feature over setting measurement strategies and creating characteristics.

If this is not possible I am open to advise on how anyone else handles the naming process making it less tedious.
Most of the drawings I am working to at not ballooned, but I have been considering implementing ballooning as I can see how it would make the naming easier.

Note - I do not have PCM
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I use the Find/Replace feature a lot. I've also dabbled with Name Default. If you go to Extras-Environment-Default Name, Check Activate Name Allocation, open the folder, open the NamePatternsDefault text file and modify the feature/characteristics name to your liking. What this can do: If you have 50 .250 holes, you can change the default name for circle to Circle .250_. Then when you pick each .250 hole it will automatically be called Circle .250_1, Circle .250_2 and so on. It took a lot of trial and error to get it to work how I wanted. The downside is you have to edit the text file any time you want to name different features/characteristics.

I have messed around the the Default Names. I was hoping for something more automated, I come from using Esprit CAM where you can make just about anything and everything a formula.

Might not be the directly related to your question but playing with PMI models just now and the auto generate function, it does look like the characteristics do what you are wanting. But unfortunately not on the feature side, and I think because a feature can have many call outs so it might not know which specific one you would want to base the name on.

This is the general process we use in services at ZEISS. When a customer gives us a print. We will balloon it ourselves if it is not. Then use the ballooned numbers to organize our naming conventions.
