[St...]
We are currently using Calypso Version 5.6.24 and Windows 10 on the computer. I know it is ancient compared to what Calypso is running today. lol. Have a new boss and he is wanting to upgrade to the latest version of Calypso. Trying to explain to him that I don't believe that it is as simple as upgrading the computer and software. Don't believe that the latest software will even run our old programs. Which there are a lot of programs, a couple hundred at least. Does anybody know of a program that can translate or convert the old programs that way the new software will be able to run the old programs. Or is this even feasible? How much of a hassle is this going to be? Trying to get as much information before he wants to contact Zeiss and have a sit down with them to discuss this. Appreciate any information. [Ke...]
Generally speaking rolling up Calypso versions works pretty well. There can be some niche issues, if you have anything highly specialized or unusual in the programs, but most issues that might occur with roll ups like that are pretty well known as are the fixes. Personally, for programs this old, I prefer to do a stepped roll up, open the programs in 6.4 and save, then 7.0 (those versions were somewhat milestone changes) and save, then go to current, just because that further mitigates some of the possible issues, but I also understand that is a lot of work for that many programs and is probably unnecessary anyway(I'm just stuck in my ways). You may need the firmware on the CMM upgraded to be compatible, depending how old that is (you can find compatibility in the release notes for your target version on the portal).
