Hello all,

How would you go about to set up the features to create the datums for this slot.

I am using symmetry for datum -B- and a combination of 3d lines and intersections for datum -C-.

Is there a better way to approach this, I would like to know to create a feature of size for -C- in the case I want to apply MMB.

Thank you!

Hello Quang,

depending on the position of the datum-"box" to the dimension-arrow the datum has to be build differently.

Meaning there is information missing from your scetch.

Is the datum-box in line with the arrow, then it is a derived element like an axis, a middle line or a middle plane.

If the datum-box is not like that then it means the actual element it is attached to.

What  strange callout.

Datum B is not a Feature of Size so can't be used as a datum.  But if this is what the customer or the engineer thinks he wants, we can give him a result.

I'd grab the sides of the slot with a symmetry plane.  I'd scan the full R end of the slot for a circle.  I'd scan the end of the slot or the face it breaks into, and create an intersection between the symmetry plane and the end face at the same height as the circle.  I'd created a 2D line between this intersection and the circle centerpoint.  Call this B.  Calypso won't be able to apply any MMB etc.

Datum B is a width. I width is a feature of size.

For Datum C you could grab the maximum coordinate at the apex of the circular end and create a width from each side. To use MMB you might need to do the old school method of creating a circle from the end points of the slot and using that to determine MMC/MMB.
