Contour completion

Created a segment and I'm trying to pick the sections to create a 2D curve. I Hold ctrl key and click the sections in the wireframe and click contour completion. It is not creating the 2D curve. What am I doing wrong?

The Contour completion, is so you don't have to do the old method of Ctrl+ click all of the sections. You select the first segment, click on Contour completion, then tell the software if you want a Curve or 3d Curve.
