Aligning Tool Rack alternative methods?

For some reason the tool rack location for my Master Probe was lost.  I have an Accura and it is currently set up with about 16 different probes.  I haven't had any issues with any of the racks other that the one for the master probe.

The problem is, my master probe is too long to actually touch off on any of the racks.  The top level of the rack system has 6 probes stored on it and I need another 2 inches or so of travel in order to get the master probe positioned above the racks so I can touch them off.  I didn't set this system up originally, so I have no idea how it was done.  I have searched everywhere and cannot find a shorter master probe I could swap out.

Is there anyway to set the location of the rack without having to touch off with the Master Probe?  Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and order a shorter probe.

When we had set up a customized moveable ProMax rack on our ancient MC550 years ago, we also received a shorter master probe.

But years later a maintenance guy told me that by using a shorter master probe, the CMM would use the wrong CAA data to correct the measured points.

I have no idea if he was right. What I do know is that CAA subdivides the measurement volume into small cubes (?) and and CAA data is determined for each of them. So if the master probe is the reference for all the other probes, what the tech guy said seems to make sense at first glance, but I'm lacking full knowledge about CAA, so I can't say for sure.
