cant measure the thicknesses on the web

I am trying to measure the thickness at a few locations on the web of an H-beam specimen. I would like to create measurement points by entering their coordinates. Since these coordinates are idealized, the points will not necessarily lie exactly on the web surface.

Is there a way to project these points onto the web surface (or snap them to the nearest surface) and then obtain the local thickness at those projected locations?

I am very new to the software, so if you could explain the steps in detail, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

If you select mesh, you can create evenly distributed points, which can be used for material thickness.

Construct -> Distance -> Material distance

Construct -> Point -> Equidistant points -> Surface points evenly

Using CAD model would be better option
