[To...] Posted yesterday at 02:28 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:28 PM My base alignment is a plane on top for Spatial and Z Origin, a circle on top for X & Y Origin and a plane on the right side for planar. We believe the tool that is cutting the top plane is .0052" too deep and affecting some of our compound angle hole measurements. Can anyone explain how to set up the base alignment to make it appear that the top plane is .0052" higher without changing the nominal info of the other features? [De...] Posted yesterday at 03:23 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:23 PM Possible method, but I don't have time to test. Copy Base Alignment Plane. In Copy, change Z to -0.0052. In Original Plane, use formula to reference copy for X, Y, Z, A1 and A2. Make Z formula ref copy +0.0052. Make Original a theoretical feature.

Sorry, but you lost me with "In Original Plane, use formula to reference copy for X, Y, Z, A1 and A2. Make Z formula ref copy +0.0052." I don't get the "reference copy" term. [De...] Posted yesterday at 03:33 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:33 PM (edited) In the original plane, use a formula for Z getActual(CopyPlane.Z)+0.0052 Edited yesterday at 03:40 PM
[Da...] Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM Have you thought about using a constructed plane with offset to set your Z origin?
[Ke...] Posted yesterday at 05:16 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:16 PM Can't you just Offset your Base Alignment, in "Special"?

I did try that and when I exited the BA, it prompted me to check my clearance data (as usual), then prompted to update nominals, to which I said NO. Based on what I did look at, it seemed to do what I wanted. Unfortunately, time ran out on the clock and I will have to re-visit this in the morning. Please sign in to view this username. I did try using and plane with offset but gave up too early because I had another issue. I am going to try it again in the morning. [Wo...]
Offsetting the base alignments will change the nominals in the features. It won't affect the nominals in the characteristics if you won't let it. I'm not sure if it will affect your measurements in terms of where the probe hits etc. Can you measure the BA normally, add additional alignment shifted by however much you want, and then use this alignment on features in question? Then, when changing the alignment on the features you can either keep the position or not, whatever works better.
[Ma...]
I think i had no luck with using translation in special for BA. I would rather to stick classic BA and then creating alignment inside program. You gain control in setting offset made by machining.
[Jo...]
I think this was said above but heres some pictures. Copy your Z plane, make it a theoretical. use GetNominal formula for the nominals & GetActual for the actual Create and alignment same as your base alignment but use the theoretical plane with your offset. [Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Much easier to just create a Construct - Plane with Offset if this is what you are doing.
[Jo...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Very true. I think i got into the habit of using this method since plane with offset wasn't working for providing a profile results with stock removed.
