Tilted plane used for alignment

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Think I'm having a brain loss moment and cannot figure out how to align a particular part (will add photos when I’m in work).

Part is 1” square tube bent into a half ring, the half ring is then twisted/tilted 30 degrees, meaning there is no ‘flat’ surface to create a plane on.

Can’t help but feel I’m missing something simple?

Did a quick sketch to see how calypso would work with it, looks like calypso thinks it would be a cone. you could use that surface as your X and Y origin and the intersection of that and the outer surface as your Z origin for your base alignment

This is the approach that I would use. three points define the plane and potentially the center of the part.  I might use some side holes to control rotation about the Z axis and similarly the X? direction (the direction that the arc is open.
