my simulation is crashing

Recommended Posts

well I apologize I guess that is not a good description at all of the problem.
my simulation is detecting a collision and letting me know there are multiple collisions during some programs when all the nominal coordinators are correct to the cad model. nor are there an apparent collisions while simulation is running.
there are some programs where i can see the probe colliding with the steel and missing a hole that it should be scanning. once the program is over I check the hole coordinates and they are correct

Even if the nominals are correct, your travel path could be making the probe or the shaft or any part of the stylus system is touching the cad model.
another possibility could be your simulation probes aren't set up properly.
Turn on your measurement plan simulator and then using the point feature, click somewhere in the part. The probe in the simulation should go exactly to that point where you clicked on. Do that with every stylus that is crashing. They all should go to exactly where you clicked. But if it doesnt, that could be your problem.
I run into this if the clearance cube is outside the measuring range of my simulation seat, I setup my simulation tabs with real values as a number of our parts take up 75% or more of the volume in one direction and it really sucks when you write a program that works in simulation but runs out of room in real life.

So your fix might be to correct the size of the machine in your machine tab, or move the part within the measuring volume.

Click the red circle, then click the part so it turns purple, and you can translate it to roughly where it sits in real life within the real measuring volume.

Edit: I just realized this was a very old post that got bumped. Hopefully he got the answer by now lol

I remember that thread, and rereading it now, I think he gave the answer himself:

He might have been misunderstanding the way simulation works. Simulation is all about collision detection. It doesn't "measure" anything. All the actuals are generated at their theoretical position and size (unless dispersion is on). The virtual probe follows the theoretical path around the part and periodically checks if any part of the stylus system intersects with the model. If that is the case, even if it's only by the fraction of a micron, it detects a collision. The actual points it generates have nothing to do with this. They are no different from what you would get if you ran the program on a physical CMM in simulation mode.
