Perpendicular Construction

Morning! (or afternoon or evening as the case may be)

So, I'm curious about the perpendicular construction. I've seen it used in some legacy programs as well as other places and I'm curious if y'all use it and if so for what applications. I have a hunch I might be able to use it to streamline some programs.
