[To...]
I have model of a rectangular part with a surface on top. My X and Y zero is based symmetry constructions of the 4 sides but I want to set Z zero at the highest point of the surface at X0Y0. The Z origin of the model is above the surface. How can I determine where this point is on the surface?z origin on surface.JPG
[Ke...]
Tom, If I understand what you are asking, I believe you could do this using a Maximum Feature construction. I am interpreting this as wanting to know the x,y coordinates of the true high point of the top surface, while also grabbing that maximum Z to use as Z origin-if that is not what you meant, please correct me

Thanks for the feedback however, I am looking to set the Z origin with a single point at X0 Y0 but need to define the nominal of that point where it is from the model. I will be taking space points for SP distances at various locations on the surface.IMG_7023.jpg
[To...]
I think I just solved my question. I created a FFS and theoretical line in Z direction and created an intersection of both.z origin on surface2.JPG
[Ke...]
Please sign in to view this quote. If you need the Z height at exactly (0,0), this is the best way to do it. intersecting a feature with a line is the best way if you need to know the value at some exact set of coordinates, for anyone who may come across this in the future. [Ri...]
What type of Base Alignment are you using? Wouldn't a 3d Best Fit get you what you want? It will keep the origin at the CAD origin for you.
