Constructing theoretical cylinder

Recommended Posts

I am having a part with a theoretical cylinder constructed on a V-block.
I have absolutely no idead how to construct it.

The red V-block is my actual part.
The blue Ø8 circle is the cylinder which I would like to construct.
Any ideas on how to make this cylinder?

One way using curve or other way - using 2x 2d lines and using tangent construction.
Repeat as many times as you need to fill length of a part ( recalling tangent constructions into 3d line to get axis )

[list=1]
  • Measure both planes of the V-block, preferably as outer tangential elements
  • Construct both possible symmetry planes (both are perpendicular to each other) from those planes
  • Construct an intersection line from the symmetry planes
  • Create a new coordinate system with the intersection line as primary alignment
  • Use the new coordinate system to construct two theoretical lines at the centroids of the V-Block planes parallel to the planes
  • Use the tangent function with those two lines to create a tangent circle with the right diameter
  • Construct a theoretical cylinder at the same coordinates, same direction, same diameter as the circle
  • Tadaaa...

    Yes - circle in contour.
But using planes with outer tangential -> offset plane from them by radius and cut can be done too. So many good ideas are shown here.

I have similar problem unsolved - i have to measure a part ( cylinder ) and get distance from center of cylinder ( fit into this 90° piece ) to another plane.

I am not quite sure I understand your post. Are you answering to author's quiestion or mine not-solved?
Mine don't need this type of intersection. I need to measure cylinder and report it's center axis distance to a plane, but center axis of a cylinder needs to be obtained like this V shape.

Or i'll try to use planes with locked angle and outer tang. with recalled points from part of a cylinder - perhaps this would work for me.
